Raze Knife/Timber Scribe is a knife with a U-shaped end sometimes called a scoop knife for cutting marks in wood by lumbermen, carpenters, coopers, surveyors, and others. These were also used to mark numbers or letters in wood boxes, barrels, crates, and beams or just about anything made of wood. Mostly used by carpenters and around the docks in the shipping industry. They were also used to erase an existing mark or writing on wood in this case they were also referred to as "Rase" or "Raze" knives. The timber scribe/race knife was a more durable marker than pencil and chalk.
This knife is 7” long, and weights 4.8oz. It has a well balanced feel; the hardwood handle is in good shape. I believe if someone put a little elbow grease into cleaning and polishing this knife, it would look beautiful.
