    Description

2004 LEWIS & CLARK COMMEMORATIVE COIN AND POUCH SET
The pouch set being offered representing one of the 10 Nations and/or Tribal Enterprises the US Mint contracted with was made by April Fox from the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation also known as the Three Affiliated Tribes located on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation in central North Dakota.
The Corps of Discovery arrived at the Mandan and Hidatsa villages in 1804 and stayed with those tribes during the winter of 1804/1805.
Had the Mandan and Hidatsa not taken in the Corps of Discovery during the expedition's first winter, they very likely would not have survived the winter and might have died. The Three Affiliated Tribes have a very unique place in the history of the Corps of Discovery.
