Description
Up for sale is a very early pair of A. Plomb special purpose pliers that were hand forged sometime in the early 1920's.These are pre date code which didn't show up until 1927. Being located in So. California gives me the luxury of finding Plomb tools frequently due to the proximity of the original production facilities. Before the internet, regional tools were the standard and Plomb was king in California.
I've seen some pretty unusual markings on Plomb tools over the years but never seen one marked "original". Since there are very few examples of A. Plomb marked tools or catalogs, the specific use of this one has me stumped. It is most likely automotive related but all it seems to do is crimp soft materials or light steel. As for the specific purpose, i have no idea.
These are beautifully made with all of the hammer marks you will find in hand forged tools. The metal stock has a gradual taper from the handles to the jaws and there are peen marks along each flat surface.
They measure 13 3/8" overall with a jaw depth of 1". The finish is untouched with original steel "scale" still intact. Some minor paint residue flecks are present but those don't detract from the overall look of the pliers.
